You’ll find a world of experiences waiting for you, no matter which direction you choose to follow. You see, Higuerón West is right at the heart of the Costa del Sol, so it’s not just the entire coastline and Málaga city that are within easy reach, but also many hidden adventures waiting just inland.

Simply follow the A-387 country road and it will take you through lovely scenery to the pretty white mountain village of Mijas, passing farms, valleys and rustic venta restaurants along the way. Rural gastronomy is a large part of the experiences to be enjoyed inland, so why would you deny yourself the pleasure of experiencing it? Pick a venta you like the look of, turn off the country road and have a meal you will savour in charming, rustic surroundings.

Mijas is a lovely little town, complete with its own gastronomy, historic and cultural sights, as well as a simply breath-taking setting with commanding sea views. If you follow the A-7053 through the Mijas Golf area you’ll soon leave Fuengirola behind and enter beautiful countryside, en route to the farming communities of Alhaurín el Grande and Coín. You’ll pass more ventas along the way, as well as horse riding centres that offer equestrian lovers the ideal way of seeing nature up close.

Castles, villages, waterfalls and lakes

Carry on and you’ll find yourself at the heart of the Serranía de Ronda, an extensive system of mountain ranges, valleys, farmland and wooded areas that hides such delights as ancient fortresses, pretty Andalusian villages and elegant country retreats – the ideal place to spend a day or two and make it a weekend getaway excursion. Though you’re seldom more than an hour from home, it gives you an opportunity to explore this beautiful region.

It’s the right place for hiking, horse riding and mountain biking, where you’ll find refreshing rock pools, cascading waterfalls and also lakes. In fact, this region boasts its very own ‘Lake District’ situated near the gorge at Álora, itself a stunning natural feature that can be followed on the popular Caminito del Rey, a pathway attached to the rockface that boasts glass sections. You’ll need to book this in advance, as it’s much in demand.

Just beyond this canyon-like setting extends a succession of lakes set among wooded hills with camping areas, restaurants and also boat hire facilities. People come here for fishing, boating, swimming and just generally to enjoy a wonderful day out in the countryside at one hour from the coast. In reality it is just one of many of the things to discover when you venture inland from your home in Higuerón West.
