Málaga’s Senda Litoral

Can you imagine a scenic coastal pathway that hugs 180 kilometres of shoreline with spectacular views across the beaches and Mediterranean to such iconic vistas as Gibraltar, North Africa, Málaga and the snow-capped peaks of Sierra Nevada? Well, it will soon be a reality.

A sister project of the Gran Senda de Málaga, which will see circular routes take shape around the city, the Senda Litoral represents the equally ambitious creation of a coastal pathway all along the beaches and coves of the Costa del Sol, from Manilva in the west to Nerja in the east – passing the likes of Estepona, Marbella, La Cala de Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Torremolinos and encompassing 14 municipalities along the way.

Large sections are already in place, with just 20% remaining before this entire area is connected and linked to existing coastal features such as seaside promenades and tracks. On route you will not only skirt a great variety of beaches, coves, sand dunes, cliffs and wooded groves, but also luxury properties, resort hotels, beach clubs, fish restaurants, chiringuito beach bars and even yacht harbours.

Added to this are scenes of great natural beauty, fantastic coastal and sea views, a diversity of aquatic sports and even fascinating historic features such as fortresses and the ancient watchtowers that used to guard the coastal communities from marauders as far back as Moorish and even Roman times. Even older are the ruins of fish salting works that date back 2.500 years to early Phoenician settlers.

A wonderful feature for tourists, local residents and homeowners alike, the Senda Litoral is already hugely popular with people strolling, jogging, cycling, roller-blading, practising yoga and fitness, as well as simply watching the sun set so spectacularly in the west as it colours the sky orange and pink. 

One of the largest, most ambitious and beneficial public projects on the Costa del Sol in years, the Senda Litoral will highlight the true beauty of this region as never before.
